The Build Up

Wellcome Collection, 23 February 2019

Wellcome Collections’ Living With Buildings exhibition charted how architects, planners and designers have impacted the health and wellbeing of communities and individuals from the early 1800s to the present.

To accompany this exhibition, Blueprint curated “Social Housing Not Social Cleansing” as part of 'The Build Up’- an event which focused on the injustices and inequalities in our relationship with buildings.

Drawing on years of research carried out for our play, Legacy, we were joined by the Museum of Homelessness and Focus E15 for a day exploring the role of art in activism. The event culminated in a panel hosted by Tom Cordell and made up of just some of the people we’ve met in this extraordinary journey exploring the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics on estate residents within the context of London’s so-called housing crisis.

Watch Melissa Herman’s film below.

Within the context of Wellcome Collection’s Living With Buildings and an alleged Housing Crisis, The Build Up addressed the issues around ownership and belonging in public spaces and the effects this has on our health. Blueprint Theatre celebrated the use of art in activism around Social Cleansing and facilitated a panel exploring the realities faced by those Living with Regeneration. With Museum of Homelessness, Housing and Mental Health Network and Focus E15. Hosted by Tom Cordell.
